About the Professor
The teacher inspired me to study geology in college. I graduated with a B.S. in geology from CWRU in 2002. Subsequently, I went to graduate school whereupon I studied physical volcanology. In graduate school, you really can study anything. Surprisingly, the University at Buffalo in New York is the home for studying volcanoes. Not the place you'd expect to study the hottest landforms on Earth (they have more volcanology professors than any university in Hawaii).
In 1808 he settled in Paris and published the findings of his New World expedition in Voyage de Humboldt et Bonpland (23 vol., 1805–1834), often cited by the title of Part I, Voyage aux regions equinoxiales du nouveau continent. Humboldt established the use of isotherms in map making, studied the origin and course of tropical storms, the increase in magnetic intensity from the equator toward the poles, and volcanology.

Usually stratovolcanoes. Examples include: Mount Pinatubo (Philippines); Mount St. Helens (Washington State, USA). Predicting volcanic eruptions is one of the chief concerns of volcanology. When a volcano erupts, little can be done to prevent property damage in the surrounding area. But many lives can be saved if people in the area are evacuated before the eruption begins.

Cabrillo offers options for degrees in Geology.
Colloquium Abstract
These will be exemplified by observations at Karymsky Volcano, Kamchatka, Russia, Tungurahua and Sangay Volcanoes in Ecuador. Spectacular video recordings of Santiaguito Volcano, Guatemala, will be presented showing how geodetic measurements can be extracted from the video to model seismic source time functions. As future research, I will discuss a recently funded NSF/CDI project, called VolcanoSRI, which will significantly extend seismo-volcanology.

Although our students enter a wide variety of professions within the field of geology, from volcanology, glaciology to tectonics, we take pride in our Environmental and Engineering Concentration that provides our students with hands-on experience in the technology and equipment that is used in the geotechnical and environmental field.
Acharya Lama Tenpa Gyaltsen
At a very early age, he began studying dharma texts and meditation. At the age of 13, he entered monastic life. In 1981, Lama Tenpa was enrolled as a member of the first class of the Karma Shri Nalanda Institute at Rumtek Monastery in Sikkim, India, together with Dzogchen Ponlop Rinpoche and Sangay Nyenpa Rinpoche.
Gary Calderone | Glendale Community College
My research focus was the application of paleomagnetism to problems in structural geology and regional tectonics; magnetic fabric studies applied to volcanology, structural geology and the acquisition of magnetic remanence; paleomagnetic analytical methods; and archaeomagnetism. My work required a familiarity with Arizona and North American geology that I draw upon quite frequently in my teaching at GCC.
